What Is The Definition Of Domestic Violence
It is violent abusive or intimidating behaviour carried out by an adult against a partner or another person in order to control and to dominate that person. It causes physical and psychological harm. It is violent abusive or intimidating behaviour by a partner or family member. Living with domestic violence has a profound effect upon children and young people and may constitute a form of child abuse. It also includes same sex relationships, domestic violence includes physical abuse, sexual abuse, psychological abuse, emotional abuse, verbal abuse, social abuse, economic abuse, harassment and stalking also spiritual abuse. The various forms of abuse occur simultaneously as a form systematic abuse with the effect of coercing, controlling of a partner or family member. Family violence refers to violence against women or men perpetrated by a family member which may include, but not limited to, their intimate partner. The range of these behaviours that constitute family violence are the same as these defined under domestic violence.
Physical Abuse
Direct assaults on the body, shaking, slapping, pushing, punching, use weapons, driving dangerously, destruction of property, abuse of pets in front of family members, assaults of children, locked outside of the house, sleep deprivation.
Sexual Abuse
Any form of forced sex or sexual degradation such as sexual activity without consent, causing pain during sex, assaulting genitals, coercive sex without protection against pregnancy or sexual transmitted disease, making the victim perform sexual acts unwillingly, criticising or using sexually degrading insults to another.
Emotional Abuse
Blaming the victim for all problems in the relationship, constantly comparing the victim with others to undermine self-esteem and self worth, sporadic sulking, withdrawing all interest and engagement, weeds of silence, blackmail.
Verbal Abuse
Continual put downs and humiliation, either privately or publicly with attacks following clear themes that focus on intelligence, sexuality body image and capacity as a parent and spouse
Social Abuse
Systematic isolation from family and friends through techniques such as ongoing rudeness and forbidden or physically preventing and forbidden or physically preventing the victim from going out and meeting others.
Economic Abuse
Complete control of all monies, no access to bank accounts, providing only an inadequate allowance, using any wages earned by the victim for household expenses.
Spiritual Abuse
Denying access to ceremonies, and or family previous religious observance, forcing victims to do things against their beliefs denigration of cultural background or using religion teachings or cultural traditions as a reason for violence.
